How to check if your land in Ghana intersects a Ramsar wetland — free tool

Before you develop, invest in, or screen any land in Ghana, you need to know whether it falls inside a Ramsar-designated wetland, mangrove zone, or protected natural resource area. We built a free tool to answer that question instantly.

If you are doing land-use due diligence, environmental screening, or Blue Carbon site identification in Ghana, one of the first questions you need to answer is whether the land intersects a Ramsar-designated wetland or protected natural resource area.

Most people find out the hard way — midway through a project, when a regulatory review flags it.

We built a free tool to answer that question before it becomes a problem.

What is a Ramsar site?

Ramsar sites are wetlands of international importance, designated under the 1971 Ramsar Convention. Ghana has several, including the Densu Delta, Muni-Pomadze, Owabi, and Songor wetlands. Intersecting one does not automatically stop a project, but it triggers specific environmental obligations, additional regulatory scrutiny, and in many cases restricts the type of activity that can take place.

Beyond formal Ramsar designations, Ghana also has mangrove zones, forest reserves, and protected natural resource corridors that carry similar constraints. Any serious land-use screening needs to check all of them.

The Ghana Ramsar & Wetland Checker

Our tool lets you enter any location in Ghana — by name, coordinates, or map click — and instantly see whether it intersects with:

  • Ramsar-designated wetland boundaries
  • Mangrove and coastal resource zones
  • Other protected natural resource areas

It is built on verified spatial data and returns a clear result you can use for initial screening, internal review, or as a first step in a formal environmental due diligence process.

The tool is free. No login required.

Who uses it

We built it primarily for:

  • Land investors and developers doing early-stage site screening before committing capital
  • Environmental consultants who need a quick first-pass check before a full EIA
  • Agribusiness and project developers identifying sites for climate-smart agriculture, Blue Carbon, or nature-based solution projects
  • Finance and ESG teams running environmental due diligence on Ghanaian land assets

What it does not replace

The checker gives you a fast, spatial answer based on mapped boundaries. It does not replace a full Environmental Impact Assessment, a ground-truthed site survey, or legal advice on land-use obligations. For projects with regulatory or financing requirements, those steps remain necessary.

What the tool does is help you avoid wasting time and money on sites that are clearly constrained — before you commission the deeper work.
